Arjun Appadurai is the John Dewey Professor in the Social Sciences at The New School in New York City. He is also president and founder of PUKAR (Partners for Urban Knowledge Action and Research), based in Mumbai. He is the author of numerous books and articles, including The Social Life of Things: Commodities in Cultural Perspective (1986), Modernity at Large: The Cultural Dimensions of Globalization (1996), and Fear of Small Numbers: An Essay on the Geography of Anger (2006).
