Dipesh Chakrabarty

Dipesh Chakrabarty is the Lawrence A. Kimpton Distinguished Service Professor of History and South Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago, where he is also a Faculty Fellow of the Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory. He is also a visiting professor at the Research School of Humanities, the Australian National University, Canberra, and an Honorary Professorial Fellow with the School of Historical Studies at the University of Melbourne. His publications include Provincializing Europe (2000; new edition 2007) and Humanism in the Age of Globalization (forthcoming). He is currently working on a book tentatively titled Decolonization and the Decline of Universal History.
