Judith Farquhar is Max Palevsky Professor of Anthropology at the University of Chicago. She is author of Knowing Practice: The Clinical Encounter of Chinese Medicine (1994) and Appetites: Food and Sex in Post-socialist China (2002). She is completing a book, coauthored with Qicheng Zhang, about practices of nurturing life (yangsheng) in contemporary Beijing.
